MC Repeater Tools

A reference guide for the tools available when logged into a MeshCore repeater as admin or guest. Connect to your repeater via the MeshCore client app, then tap the repeater name to access its tools.

Contents

Advert

Broadcast your repeater's presence on the mesh — including its name, position, and public encryption key. There are two advert types:

Repeaters send a flood advert automatically on a configurable interval (default every 12 hours). Sending a manual advert is useful after first setup or after making configuration changes.

Steps:

  1. Connect to your repeater in the MeshCore client app
  2. Log in as admin or guest
  3. Select Advert
  4. Choose Zero-Hop or Flood
  5. Confirm to send

Sync Clock

Syncs your repeater's internal clock with the time from your connected client device. Accurate time is important for MeshCore — clock drift can cause issues with advertising and message routing.

Steps:

  1. Connect to your repeater and log in as admin
  2. Select Sync Clock
  3. Confirm — the repeater will sync its clock to your phone's current time

Tip: If the clock doesn't sync correctly on the first attempt, reboot the repeater and try again. This is a known occasional issue.

Change Identity Key

Generates a new private key and public identity for your repeater. This changes the repeater's cryptographic identity on the mesh — all existing contacts will need to re-discover it.

Warning: This is destructive. Only use this if you need to reset a compromised key or are re-purposing a device. After changing the key, you will need to re-add the repeater to your contacts and re-establish any configured paths.

Steps:

  1. Connect to your repeater and log in as admin
  2. Select Change Identity Key
  3. Confirm — the repeater will generate a new key pair and reboot

Manage Regions

Regions allow repeaters to segment and control which flood traffic they relay. Each repeater can be assigned a home region and allowed or blocked regions, giving network operators control over traffic routing across large deployments.

Steps:

  1. Connect to your repeater and log in as admin
  2. Select Manage Regions
  3. From here you can:
    • View currently configured regions
    • Set or change the home region
    • Allow or block specific regions from flooding through this repeater
    • Save changes (changes are held in memory until saved)

Note: Region management requires firmware v1.10 or later.

Neighbors

Displays a list of repeaters that your repeater has a direct (zero-hop) connection with, along with SNR and last-heard timestamps. This is one of the most useful diagnostic tools for understanding your repeater's RF environment.

Steps:

  1. Connect to your repeater and log in as admin or guest
  2. Select Neighbors
  3. View the list of zero-hop neighbors with SNR data

Discover New Neighbors

Sends a discovery request to find new zero-hop neighbors that may not yet be in the neighbor table.

  1. From the Neighbors screen, select Discover
  2. Wait for the scan to complete
  3. New neighbors will appear in the list

Remove a Neighbor

Removes a specific entry from the neighbor table. Useful for cleaning up stale or offline nodes.

  1. From the Neighbors screen, select the neighbor to remove
  2. Select Remove
  3. Confirm — the entry will be deleted from the neighbor table

Tip: You can remove all neighbors at once by sending a space character as the prefix via CLI, which matches all existing entries.

Telemetry

Displays real-time statistics from your repeater's radio and system. Useful for monitoring node health and diagnosing performance issues.

Telemetry includes:

Steps:

  1. Connect to your repeater and log in as admin or guest
  2. Select Telemetry
  3. View the live stats display

Reboot

Remotely reboots your repeater. Required after certain configuration changes such as radio parameter updates.

Steps:

  1. Connect to your repeater and log in as admin
  2. Select Reboot
  3. Confirm — the repeater will restart and reconnect to the mesh within a few seconds
