How to Join

Joining the Inland NW Mesh network is straightforward and low-cost. Here are the ways you can get involved.

This is our primary way to communicate with the community along with network planning.
We have over 150 users on the server now.

Deploy a Node

The most impactful thing you can do is put a node on the network. Every new node extends coverage and adds redundancy for everyone.

What you need:

  • An ESP32-based LoRa development board (T-Beam, T3S3, Heltec, RAK, or similar)
  • An antenna suited for 915 MHz
  • Power source — USB-C, battery pack, or solar panel
  • MeshCore firmware (free and open-source)

Nodes can be as simple as a $30 board sitting on a windowsill, or as robust as a weatherproof outdoor installation with solar power and a high-gain antenna. Start simple and expand from there.

Volunteer

Not ready to deploy hardware? There are plenty of other ways to contribute:

  • Installations — help with physical node installs, antenna mounting, and cable runs
  • Documentation — write and maintain guides in the wiki
  • Community outreach — connect us with emergency management agencies, HAM radio clubs, and preparedness groups
  • Development — contribute to firmware, tooling, or this website

Donate Equipment

We always need:

  • LoRa development boards (T-Beam, T3S3, Heltec, RAK)
  • 915 MHz antennas
  • Solar panels and charge controllers
  • Weatherproof enclosures
  • Battery packs and power banks
